On the Farm Today: July 27th
It has been HOT y’all! I head out in the am as early as possible to weed, harvest and maintain the flowers. By 10:30 it’s to hot to harvest. You should never be picking flowers with the sun on your back. Ha! That is what a lot of gardeners & flower farmers say.
We have had a lot of early bumper crops. What is that? That is when you get a bunch of one flower/vegetable. We are constantly growing and trying new flowers. Every year we have fails. Every year we have success stories. This year, with all the rain, we lost a lot. However, we gained as well. Our first time growing carnations, lisianthus, sweet william, fever few, forget me nots, and a bunch of fillers, turned out to be good. Now we need to figure out timing.
There will be no U PICK this Saturday July 31st. We are producing many flowers but our members and orders come first.
Last year we didn’t start our CSA until August 8th. We have tripled our members. We grow from seed with no hoop house which means that our crops are later in the summer. Having said that, our crops can go into mid October. {our lisianthus were plugs bought @farmerbailey. Plugs are what we grow in our basement from seed. Lissys are very hard to start from seed. I have found that the some farmers do both seed & plugs. Yet most do plugs. I understand why!! More expensive but less work! For now, we are still going to do soil blocking. (information on soil blocking can be found on our IG page. @knebelsfarm)`
If your unable to make a Saturday U pick, feel free to schedule a private one. You can text me and we can work together to find a good time for you and your loved ones to come and pick! 513-235-4370 [leave me a text and I will get back to you promptly]
WE DELIVER! Do you have a Special Birthday, Anniversary, or occasion coming up? Or do you just want to surprise someone just because? Give me a call and we can put together a beautiful fresh arrangement to fit your budget. Typically we deliver anywhere within 15 minutes.
Hope you’re all surviving the heat. Remember to water in the early am or after the sun is down. You don’t want to burn your leaves on your plants and flowers. Till next time ……Stay grateful.
